I started a project called Designers in Business back in 2020. It was a way to improve my business acumen and confidence in the open.
I felt strongly that my impact and influence as a designer could grow by understanding business concepts and culture in more detail.
I still do, but my beliefs about how (and where) design can have positive impact have evolved.
I still believe business acumen goes a long way, but there are so many other dimensions to the potential impact of design and designers that I’m keen to explore.
So, from the next edition of the newsletter, Designers in Business will become...✨ Designers with Impact ✨
Over the past few months I struggled to tie some of the newsletter’s content back to business themes, so this re-positioning broadens my scope while hopefully remaining just as valuable to those who subscribe.
There will continue to be plenty of business-focused content and interviews. I still believe a little bit of business confidence can go a long way for designers.
But from next week, I'll be sharing more wide-reaching content about growing design's impact and influence not just through business, but as collaborators, as founders, as entrepreneurs, and for people + planet.
If this sounds like your kind of thing any more, please consider subscribing. If you're already a subscriber - thank you :) You don't need to re-subscribe, and I hope you’ll continue to join me at Designers With Impact.
The Designers With Impact website is now live, and the podcast name and newsletter email address will update to reflect this shift very soon.I have plenty of impact-focused ideas to explore in 2024, so keep an eye out for notifications about new content including training and coaching coming later this year 👀
